Steg G

Where do we go to find out who Steg G is? Where did he come from? And where is he headed. Lets go back in time , back before the Audio-biography LP, back before Clydebuilt LP, back before Mind Games EP, we are going back to the notorious housing estate Carnwadric on the south side of Glasgow. In the early eighties gang culture was the one thing which brought you glorification and allowed you to make a name for yourself on the tough streets, however it was also the era in which Hip Hop was introduced to the UK.

"Being brought up within a generation where violence was rife and you had to do whatever it took to protect yourself you had no real grasp on what lay ahead for you in life! however when I first heard Hip Hop music and saw the energy, diversity and unity of the culture I knew then that I wanted to be part of it whether it was break dancing, graffiti or DJing it didn't matter, I just knew it was something which I could be involved in and be creative with".

This was certainly the case as Steg G became embroiled in Hip Hop in its early days and took to learning the art of DJing, as his skills progressed he took it that bit further and began working with various MCs. Powermove was the group which developed from the mists of talent within the neighbourhoods surrounding him.

“Freestyle Master was a local rapper who was looking out for a DJ so I approached him with some beats I had been working on that’s when he introduced me to Shoey Shoo who had the same love for rap music so we all got together and formed a group called Powermove”.

Producing beats and learning his craft in the studio took over his life as Steg.G began making a name for himself around Glasgow as a serious producer. It wasn’t long before it started paying off as recognition and demand for his work from other artists within the scene was growing.
